Eveline grew up with seven brothers, the only surviving daughter of John and Elizabeth Reynolds. She attended school and was in the first graduating class of Lucy Cobb Institute. This was one of the first schools for young women in the Southeast and was established in Athens in 1858 by General Thomas Reade Rootes Cobb, the principal author of the Confederate Constitution.
