Mary Dowdle Lucas, 78, of Naples, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 1, of complications from heart surgery. Mrs. Lucas, a former resident of Northfield, was raised in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood. She graduated from St. Philip Neri School and St. Xavier High School in Chicago and attended Chicago Teachers College. After marrying the late John V. Lucas in 1944, she joined him in operating John V. Lucas Co., a Southwest Side company that produced fabric sample books. "My mother was treasurer of the company," said her daughter, Lynn Martin.
